On Sunday 13th July 2008 Cobra Judo Club ran their annual Championships at Castle Vale Leisure Centre, Birmingham. Thirty-three fighters from the 2A's Judokwai entered the event and came home with a tally of twenty-four medals, which included eight gold, six silver, and ten bronzes. They also won gold in the seven player team event.

Phoebe Woodbridge (girls under 20kg), Ella Woodbridge (girls under 22kg), Lewis Chatham (boys under 32kg), Daniel Powell (boys under 36kg), Keelie Jelfs (girls under 45kg), Chelsea Brown (girls under 50kg), Nicola Haywood (Ladies Open), and Adam Ashford (men’s Dan grade Open).

Silver medallist

Lauren Dewsbury (girls under 20kg), Daniel Poller (boys under 20kg), Louis Gummery (boys under 25kg), Harry Tredaway (boys under 28kg), Lucy Stubbs (girls under 36kg), Maria Weir (girls under 40kg) and Tom Page (men’s Lightweight Kyu grade).

Bronze medallist

Solomon Allen (boys under 20kg), Johnathan Dawkins (boys under 20kg), James Cox (boys under 22kg), Millie Dawkins (girls under 40kg), Lucy Gray (girls under 45kg), John Oldfield (boys under 50kg), Mathew Campbell (boys over 60kg), Helen Page (ladies Open) and Ryan Dawkins (men’s Lightweight Kyu grade).

Samuel Morris, Harry Tredaway, Lewis Chatham, Daniel Powell, Maria Weir, Keelie Jelfs, Chelsea Brown.

The 2A’s Judokwai started the day with the Woodbridge sisters winning gold in the first two categories, and the day was completed with Nicola Haywood and Adam Ashford, both Instructors at the 2A’s, taking gold in the final two events.

On Sunday 2nd September, 2007 The British Judo Association held the Heart of England Championships at The NIA in Birmingham, with over 750 players taking part in the event. The 2A’s Judokwai entered three players in to the vast field and came out victorious.

Jordan Ivory-Birtles took bronze in a very fiercely contested category of boys under 50kgs whilst Chelsea Brown stormed through the girls under 48kgs to take the gold medal, beating all her opponents by Ippon scores. Adam Ashford fought in the largest category of the day in the men’s under 73kgs and made it through to the last eight but was knocked out by the eventual gold medallist in a closely fought contest which was decided by a minor score.

On Sunday 16th September 2007, Bushi Judo Club held their annual championships at Castle Vale Leisure Centre, Birmingham. Thirty-two fighters from the 2A's Judokwai entered the event and came home with a tally of twenty-eight medals, which included six gold, eight silver, and fourteen bronzes.

The 2A’s entered a big squad into this championship, and reaped the rewards. They won the first gold of the day with Ella Woodbridge in the girls under 20kgs and finished a tremendous day with Tom Page beating much heavier opposition to win the last event of the day, in the men’s under 73kgs, showing that the squad is strong from the lightest right through to the heaviest players.

On Sunday 25th February, 2007 the Amateur Judo Association started the 2007 judo calendar by holding the Midland Area Closed championships at Castle Vale Leisure Centre, Birmingham. Thirty-eight fighters from the 2A's Judokwai entered the event and came home with a tally of twenty-nine medals, which included eight gold, eight silver, and twelve bronzes. The competition was split into two levels of ability, a low-grade section and an open grade section.

Gold medallists

Low Grade: - Manon Bouchney and Helena Davis

Open Grade: - Lewis Chatham, George Payne, Lulu Piovesana, Chelsea Brown, Chloe Powell and Mathew Campbell.

Silver medallists

Low Grade: - Katie Bradley, Josephine Philpot and Jack Woodbridge.

Open Grade: - Grace Chatham, Maria Weir, Patrick Maughan, Elliot Chatham and Sean Jones

Bronze medallists

Low Grade: - Samantha Rogers, Samuel Morris, Nicola Philpot, Georgina Rogers, Jerry Oldfield, Jack Beckford, Molly Campbell and Holly Monahan.

Open Grade: - Charlie Clarke, Kate Pickersgill, Madison Millward and Sean Jones

The senior instructor Mr. Allan Ashford (Fifth Dan black belt) said, "This was a great start to the 2007 campaign for the 2A’s players. There were some superb techniques both from the lower graded players and the higher grades, which was an eye-opener for what is to come in the forth-coming months”.

On Sunday 17th September  2006The 2A’s Judokwai took a squad of twenty-four players to The Bushi Judo Club Championships held at Castle Vale leisure Centre, Birmingham, and came away with nineteen medals which included five gold, five silver, and nine bronzes.

Gold medal winners were: -

Louis Gumery (Boys under 20kgs), Daniel Powell (Boys under 28kgs), George Payne (boys under 32kgs), Chelsea Brown (girls under 40kgs), and Bethany Glasby (Girls over 55kgs).

Silver Medal winners were: -

Adam Budz (boys under 20kgs), Lewis Chatham (Boys under 28kgs), Lulu Piovesana (Girls under 32kgs), Helen Page (girls under 55kgs), and Tom Page (boys over 55kgs).

Bronze Medal winners were: -

Luis Grantham (Boys under 20kgs), Ella Woodbridge (girls under 20kgs), Manon Boucheny (girls under 25kgs), Grace Chatham (girls under 25kgs), Patrick Maughan (Boys under 25kgs), Charlie Clarke (boys under 28kgs), Luke Gerald (Boys under 36kgs), Elliot Chatham (Boys under 40kgs), and Mathew Campbell (boys under 55kgs).

On Sunday 26th February the Amateur Judo Association started the 2006 judo calendar by holding the Midland Area Closed championships at Castle Vale Leisure Centre, Birmingham. Fifty-two fighters from the 2A's Judokwai entered the event and came home with a tally of Forty medals, which included sixteen gold, eight silver, and sixteen bronzes. The competition was split into two levels of ability, a low-grade section and an open grade section. The 2A’s judokwai took a clean sweep of gold, silver and bronze in three of the low-grade boys categories.

This was the largest entry the club has ever sent to a championship and in some categories there up to eight players all from the 2A’s Judokwai.

The senior instructor Mr. Allan Ashford (Fifth Dan black belt) said, "This was a great start to the 2006 campaign for the 2A’s players. There were some superb techniques both from the lower graded players and the higher grades, which was an eye-opener for what is to come in the forth-coming months”.

Two weeks earlier over the weekend of 11th & 12th February the 2A’s judokwai joined forces with other local club, Erdington Judo Club, and entered The London International Championship held at the Excel Centre in Docklands. This International event was supported by an entry in excess of sixteen hundred competitors. The joint team came away with fifteen medals which was enough to win the trophy for third place team overall. The partnership also took first place in the Masters section.

Midland Area Open Age Championships

On Sunday 4th December 2005 the Amateur Judo Association held their Midland Area Open Age Championships at Castle Vale Leisure Centre, Birmingham. Twelve fighters from the 2A's Judokwai entered the event and came home with a tally of eleven medals, which included five gold, three silver, and three bronzes.

The senior instructor Mr. Allan Ashford (Fifth Dan black belt) said, "It was a great achievement to take so many medals as this competition generally favours players big for their age, and many of our smaller players still managed to come away with a medal making the medal tally even more significant.

The previous weekend the 2A’s sent a squad of seventeen players to the East Midland Area Open Championships held at William Bradford College, in Leicester. After a slightly shaky start the players began to produce the medals and a final tally of five gold, five silver and five bronze medals were won.

MIDLAND AREA LOW GRADE AND TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS

  On Sunday 16th October 2005 the Amateur Judo Association held the Midland Area Open Low Grade & Team Championships at Castle Vale Leisure Centre, Birmingham. Eighteen individuals fighters plus two teams of five and a team of three from the 2A's Judokwai, entered the event and came home with a tally of Sixteen individualist medals and Three team medals, which included five gold, five silver, and six bronzes in the individual competition and two gold and a silver in the team events

MIDLAND AREA OPEN COMPETITION

On Sunday 2nd October 2005, the 2A’s Judokwai took a squad of twenty-seven players to The Amateur Judo Association Midland Area Open Championships held at Castle Vale leisure Centre, Birmingham, and came away with seventeen medals which included nine gold, two silver, and six bronzes.

THE BUSHI J.C. COMPETITION

On Sunday 18th September The 2A’s Judokwai took a squad of eighteen players to The Bushi Judo Club Championships held at Castle Vale leisure Centre, Birmingham, and came away with eleven medals which included two gold, four silver, and five bronzes.

Daniel Powell (Boys under 25kgs) and Natalie Green (Girls under 45kgs)

Silver Medal winners were: -

The Senior Instructor Mr. Allan Ashford (Fifth Dan black belt) said, it was a good start to the second half of the season with more than half the 2A’s players taking a medal in which was a very keenly contested competition. Congratulations to everyone.

On the previous day, one of the 2A’s instructors, Steve Ashford, took part in the British Masters Competition held at Norwich and came away with a Gold medal in the under 73kgs category.

On Sunday 19th July The 2A’s Judokwai took a squad of players to The Cobra Judo Club Championship held at Castle Vale leisure Centre, Birmingham, and came away with seventeen medals of which more than half were gold. The clubs medal tally on the day included nine gold, two silver, and six bronzes.

Amateur Judo Association of Great Britain National Championships, Sunday 22 May 2005

East Midlands Open Championship, Sunday 7 May 2005

Gold Medalists, Daniel Powell (boys under 25 kgs), Lucy Bradley (girls under 32 kgs), Bethany Glasby (girls under 55 kgs) while Grace Chatham, Harry Robinson, Lewis Chatham, Lulu Piovesana, Chantelle Draper, Tom Page and Kelly Lansbury collected Silver Medals.  Bronze Medalists were Parrick Maughan, Liam Bradley, Elliott Chatham, Chloe Powell and Nicola Haywood.


London Millennium Competition, Saturday and Sunday 19/20 February 2005

Gold medalists were Steven Ashford and Leah Cox.  a silver medal to Lucy Bradley and bronze medals to Lulu Piovesana, Daniel Powell and Tom Page.
